iPhone 3GS Headed to Bell and Telus Canada

iphone 3gsCellular providers Rogers / Fido Canada has been enjoying a monopoly selling the iPhone because of it’s GSM network. With Bell and Telus on CDMA, the Apple iPhone would never come to them, so they banded together to create an overlay on their CDMA network to allow GSM phones to work. That day is near with Bell and Telus officially announcing that the Apple iPhone 3GS is headed to their network in November,.

What does this mean to consumers, while the price of the iPhone’s in Canada won’t drop, the competition for iPhone plans will start to heat up and hopefully will result in better prices. Also, consumers who were on Bell and Telus can soon buy any unlocked phone and just simply purchase a sim card. Although no word on when unlocked phones will be allowed on Bell or Telus networks.
