According to Apple, they’ve managed to have their 2 billionth application downloaded from their App Store. Just to stress, that’s 2 BILLION. 2,000,000,000. Two and NINE ZEROS!
There’s more than 85,000 of them in the store, and spread over the 50 million iPhone and iPod Touch customers, that works out to be an average of 40 apps per device. Sadly, it’s unknown how much money this has raised for neither Apple nor the development teams involved, but it’s sure to be a high number. Steve Jobs was quoted by the Apple PR team as saying: “The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone. The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it”.
Well done Apple. Well done.

It is the first on-board navigation app for the iPhone with this functionality. Instead of only stating “turn right”, the app informs the user to “turn right on to ‘Main Street’, enabling the driver to further concentrate on the road ahead and not become distracted looking for street signs. Navigon is back in the North American market with their Navigon MobileNavigator for iPhone / iPhone 3GS running OS 3.0 or higher. We are quite excited to review it, the app seems to be very similar to their in car devices with a clean interface and good feature set.
One big difference with other iPhone apps is that the 1.2 gigs of maps are downloaded into your iPhone, so you do not have to pay any data charges or monthly fees to use this app or worry about cellular signal dead zones.
The North American app costs a $99 from the Apple Itunes app store and is presently on sale till August 31st 2009 for a rock bottom price of $69. There are also versions for many other countries as well, including a version for all of Europe. Continue Reading »
