PlayStation Vita owners may want to protect their gaming fondleslabs with WaterField Designs’ new line of PS Vita Cases.

There’s a choice of them available, ranging from the cheap suede jacket to the “Gear Pouch Pro” which features a metallic material, light padding, pockets for games and cords and self locking zips.

Tomorrow Apple are announcing something. Apparently it’s a bit of a big deal.

So much of a big deal that the internet is aflame with expectations that it’s an iPad 3 being released, but it could always be something else. Unlikely, but it could. Remember that it’s only been recently that Apple has been lax with keeping mum about what they’re building, and I wouldn’t put it past them to start releasing bogus parts for products that don’t exist just to annoy the fanatic followers in the press.

But it’s probably going to be the iPad 3. Here’s a bingo card for the presentation!

Owners of iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches and it’s ilk can now celebrate world domination, as the 25 billionth app has been downloaded from the App Store.

The app that triggered it was “Where’s My Water?” and Chunli Fu of China will get a $10,000 iTunes gift card for their troubles.

What does this mean in the long term? Not much, but it’s a milestone Apple cares about, along with knowing that there’s over half a million apps to choose from in the app store and developers have earned $4 Billion for supporting the devices.

Nokia have a lot to boast about with their 808 PureView. Not only does it have Carl Zeiss optics, but it has a 41 megapixel camera sensor.

What can they do with 41MP? More than you think. The first selling point is that you can take massive photos, up to 38MP in size. Sure, it loses 3MP somewhere, but 38MP is not to be sniffed at, especially since this is a phone.
The second is more interesting. If you take a normal resolution photo (8MP or less), it condenses 7 pixels of information down to one. You may lose picture size but you gain sharpness. Apparently. If we get one we’ll test that out.

Other more pedestrian additions include full HD 1080p recording and playback, 4x lossless zoom, Nokia “Rich Recording” (CD-like, according to them) and Dolby Headphone.

Not quite a death knell to the normal camera just yet, but it’s certainly a step in that direction.

Just in case you can’t get enough of tablet computing, ViewSonic have announced it’s new 7″ and 10″ ViewPads. Five of the things!

The G70 is a 7″ using Android 4, ViewScene 3D, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, mini HDMI, micro USB, mini USB, front and rear cameras, 1GB RAM and 4GB of storage expandable to 32GB for under £260

The E70 is also a 7″ with Android 4, with similar storage capabilities, front facing camera Wi-Fi and a fairly stunning £129 price tag.

The Viewpad E100 boats a 9.7″ display, Android 4, 1GHz Cortex processor, weighs 620g, 9.1mm thick, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HDMI, USB and the choice of having it with 3G (£325) or without (£260)

The P100 goes for a full 10″ screen, dual cameras, 1.6GHz processor, Windows 7 for £520, or £645 with 3G.

All of the above are scheduled for mid to late Q2 this year.

Lastly, the 10e has a 9.7″ screen, 9.1mm thick, 200 hours of standby battery life, 1Ghz processor, and runs Android 2.3 but is upgradable to 4. It will go for £240 without Wi-Fi now but if you wait until April you can get the 3G version for £290.

If you are ever questioning the power of higher education, then go look at what the University of Pennsylvania are doing. They’re working with “Robot Quadrotors”, aka extremely fancy remote controlled helicopters, and were inspired to perform the James Bond theme with them.

See? All you need is a load of guitar strings strategically stretched over a frame, a modified keyboard with helipads placed perfectly, bits of a drumkit and a ton of remote controlled flying things to play a movie theme…

In a few days we are apparently going to have another iPad in the world…
Of course, we don’t know exactly if there is one being released or what it’s specs will be as there’s not been an official announcement, but that hasn’t stopped the wild speculation online.

Cue someone making a fantastic “What If…” video showing what the iPad 3 could be if Apple wanted to pull some sort of “the future is NOW!” stuff on us. The actual iPad 3 (if that’s what it’s called and if it’s actually being released, we still don’t “officially” know) won’t be as awesome as this…

Edge to edge screen, magnetic connectivity to other devices, holography and on-desk projected controls will probably not be part of the actual launch, but we can dream, can’t we? Aatma Studio already has.

Onkyo have announced it’s first releases for 2012, namely 4 entry level home cinema receivers.

The TX-SR313 boasts 5 HDMI ports, Dolby TrueHD and kicks out 5x100w. The TX-NR414 raises that to 5x130w, 6 HDMI in and assorted bits of internet connectivity, including Spotify. It can also be controlled by an app and also features InstaPrevue, namely getting a live thumbnail of whatever’s playing on each HDMI input, which seems fairly useful.

The TX-NR515 and the TX-NR616, aside from being sexily named, feature “MHL” (smartphone playback), 8 HDMI in, 2 HDMI out, upscaling up to 4K if your screen can take it, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, and the 616 has Audyssey DSX Expansion for additional Front Wide channels.

Expect them in March and April in the UK for between £299 and £599.

Just when you thought there couldn’t be another Galaxy-named product from Samsung, they announce the Galaxy S Advance.

A dual-core 1.0Ghz processor, 4.0″ Super AMOLED display, Gingerbread and a 3.5mm headphone socket appears to be the main draws, but then there’s also the 5MP camera, Samsung’s “TouchWiz” UI and “Find My Phone”.
That last feature appeals as not only can you find your phone (duh) but you can also remotely wipe the data from the handset in the event it gets into the wrong hands.  Cue quote from someone important at Samsung UK, Simon Stanford (MD):

“We are very excited to launch our latest handset from the Galaxy family – the Galaxy S Advance. Our aim is to build on the features we know our customers enjoy and add to the choice of smartphones we offer. Our Galaxy range has proven extremely popular and we have no doubt this latest sleek and powerful addition, with its curved design will be greeted the same response when it is released in the UK. ”
